At Salon Sage and Barber Studio, our mission is to make you and your hair happy while providing sustainable and environmentally friendly services. As Charleston’s only departmentalized salon, our stylists receive unprecedented and ongoing training to deliver a high-end salon experience that’s consistently ahead of the curve.
We are a Davines-exclusive salon. We love Davines for their commitment to environmental sustainability, their carbon-neutral packaging, their B Corp status, and their all-natural products that just ROCK.
While offering full salon and barbering services, we have a community and growth mindset that values transparency, integrity, and health – all through lots of laughter.
Cabbage Patch Dolls, A Phone and Her Father’s Toolbox
Allison’s dreams of being a stylist started at a very young age. Her dear grandmother, “Gram” took her to get their nails done every Friday afternoon. Although she was there for nails, she was captivated by the hairstylists in the room working their magic. She loved watching the incredible transformations created by the artists standing behind their chairs. With her imagination running wild, she would go home to create her very own salon, using her cabbage patch dolls as clients, a phone made from lined notebook paper, and her father’s tool box as her station. Her cabbage patch dolls were even lucky enough to receive some of her first custom haircuts. When clients “called” her paper phone, she answered as “Salon Sage” every time. To this day, nobody knows why or when she came up with the name but it has remained constant over all these years. Through the highs and lows of life, she held tightly to her dream.
The Salon From A Little Girl’s Dream (Literally!)
After high school, she tried the typical college route but it only took her one year to realize that her passion was worth the risk. She finally enrolled in her local cosmetology school and flourished as a student. Upon graduation, she studied under the mentorship of Zanya Gissler of Zanya Spa Salon right outside Philadelphia. After moving to Charleston, Allison realized that the industry was lacking a salon like the one she dreamed of as a little girl. She decided to take a leap of faith and opened our beloved Salon Sage in 2013. Since then, she has been building a happy, healthy and honest environment for everyone. We are all so proud of her for staying true to herself and the pure dream of a loving child.
